Biographical Sketch

Rubens Carlos de Souza Gomes was born September 14, 1965 in Cabo Frio, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Rubens is married to Luciana and has an 8-year old son, Mateus.

Mr. Gomes received a technical high school diploma, emphasis in electronics, from CEFET/RJ (Federal Center of Technological Education) "Celso Suckow da Fonseca" in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1984. Between January, 1985 and July, 1988, he worked as an electronics computer service technician in Rio de Janeiro. In August of 1987, he began an evening undergraduate program in Computer Sciences at UERJ (Rio de Janeiro State University). In May of 1988, Mr. Gomes was awarded a five year full-tuition IIE (Institute of International Education) undergraduate scholarship from the University of Kansas (KU).

Mr. Gomes graduated with the B.S. in Computer Engineering, and M.S. in Electrical Engineering (emphasis in telecommunications systems engineering) from the University of Kansas in 1993, and 1996, respectively. Rubens graduate research project involved the simulation study to analyze the throughput and delay performance of Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) input buffered switches based on a request-grant-status scheduling algorithm.

While in graduate school, Gomes worked as an applications programmer at the University of Kansas Computer Center. He programmed in COBOL, JCL (Job Control Language), and Mark-IV on an IBM MVS/VM mainframe environment. In 1985-86, Rubens worked in the medical device interface development group of Cerner Corporation in Kansas City, MO. At Cerner, Gomes developed and intergrated clinical laboratory medical device software written in "C" with Cerner's PathNet Laborary Information System.

From 1996 to 2000, Mr. Gomes worked as a Telecommunications Software Engineer at Sprint Corporation (Overland Park, KS) and Fujitsu Network Communications (Raleigh, NC). At Sprint and Fujitsu, Gomes participated in the development of SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) agents, and frame relay and asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) network management systems. The development was done on UNIX (HP_UX and Sun Solaris) platforms using C++, Java, SQL, Versant/C++ and Oracle databases. In 2000, Rubens worked as CTO of of The World/Mundo Network, LLC, an Internet start-up based in Pompano Beach, FL. At The World Mundo Network, Mr. Gomes implemented Linux servers, T1 and wireless connections to Cisco router, and office Ethernet switch and cabling.

Rubens was president of the Brazilian Social Club of Kansas City in 1996-98. In this capacity, Rubens helped organize brazilian events, music shows. Rubens played a lead role in Brazilian music percussion ensemble in Kansas City. He was also the lead of the Kansas City Wizards Soccer Team samba band.

After returning to Brazil in Nov. 2000, Rubens worked as Systems Manager at Diveo Broadband Networs and Project Manager at T-Systems in Sao Paulo. Then in 2005-2006, Rubens worked as senior software developer at EDS in Rio de Janeiro.

Between 2006-2009, Rubens worked as a Senior Consultant at American Airlines and Sr. Software Developer at Handango, Inc in Dallas/Fort Worth, TX. Rubens also developed an Internet online address book for smatphone named EZLista.com.
